About This Project
For almost 20 years A Better World was able to operate with very little or no administration costs. Most of these costs were paid for by non-project donation income, specific contributions for the operations and the works was done by volunteers.
With the growth of ABW, the requirement of project reporting and monitoring, accounting and issuing receipts are becoming full time work and we are needing people with training who can devote to delivering quality projects and timely information to donors.
We currently have one full time donor relations and trip coordinator. Who donates part of the wages. We have two student interns and one part time operations manager who keeps the paper work flowing accurately and coordinates all of our volunteer project managers. We contract other services as needed. Not all costs are provided to us at no charge. We still have credit card fees, bank charges, phone and printing that needs to be paid.
We continue to fund raise specifically for these expenses and encourage our donors to support the costs of operations as another project.
We do not have to pay for rent, taxes, computers, utilities as they are all donated. Neither do our senior management and Executive director get any pay or travel expenses. Some project managers get an honorarium, reimbursement for out of pocket expenses and sometimes a portion of their on the ground costs covered while monitoring projects.
We think of spending money as an investment concept – when spending money for expenses, the question is answered as to will it generate more money and provide better service and make a greater impact. We budget to spend 10% but recover about 7% from activities outside of project donations and can spend up to 3% for administration.
