About This Project
Mbaghai is located near Mombo, Tanzania. What is unique about this community is
that everything has been built by the students’ parents over a period of ten years. The
government has not contributed to the infrastructure, supplying only the teachers.
The nearest school for these children is an eleven kilometer walk one-way. Many of
the families are subsistence farmers, growing only enough to support themselves and
their families and yet they have shown extraordinary dedication to maintaining this school for their children. The secondary school has 173 students–76 boys and 97 girls. 78 more students are expected to register in the coming school year, commencing in January. There are thirteen teachers, ten of which are male and three females.
