Wednesday, November 7, 2018 – Everyone gifted Everyone Valued at Lamu school for children with special needs

Today we are in Lamu, Kenya visiting the Lamu School for special needs. There are now over 115 children here with various disabilities. Children with autism and different mental disabilities make up the majority of the children living here.Ray Loxdale and some others visited the school today. We began our trip by boat.

At the school we examined plans for 2019 and our most recent projects. The new dorm, built by the Ministry of Education, was furnished by Gord and Kathy Bontje

Students from Lacombe Upper Elementary School raised money for new uniforms. Thanks for believing in them! The idea that everyone is gifted and valued is clearly practiced in this school.

Head Teacher Mr. Bute thanks the Lacombe students

Mr.  Bute and board chair Mr. Omar have been involved at the school for many years.  They are constantly thinking of the future of these children and doing some innovative things.

There are other joys of meeting local people. Here is Bashir, one of our captains. He is already in training.

One of my favorite things to do in Lamu.
