Ndeu Comprehensive School

About the Project: This small coastal school of about 350 students currently has 11 stone classrooms in poor repair and one iron-sheet classroom with wire mesh walls. The school is juggling its Early Childhood Development (ECD) students, a new Grade 9 class, and a few secondary students. Adding two classrooms will ease space constraints and improve learning conditions. Grade 5 will move out of the iron-sheet classroom, and Grade 9 will have their own room.
This project is being partially funded by the Florence Rajah Memorial Fund.

About the Site:  Ndeu Comprehensive School, formerly a primary school, is located on Kenya’s eastern coast in the Lamu region. It serves nearly 300 students from a community of largely indigenous or nomadic tribes who are new to public education. The school has a shallow well and a well-maintained garden. To provide more water for the community, a second well was completed by ABW in January 2024. The school also requires renovations to existing classrooms, as well as the construction of new classrooms, toilets, a kitchen, and other equipment. Desks are needed for both students and teachers. With the right support, this school has great potential for future growth.
