Captain Comprehensive School

About the Project: Captain Comprehensive School currently has a basic kitchen, with meals prepared in a small enclosure and served in an old classroom where fires are built on the floor. ABW plans to build a new kitchen with two double-burner stoves and proper ventilation, creating a safer, more hygienic, and efficient workspace while reducing smoke.

About the Site: Captain Comprehensive School, formerly Captain Primary, is a high-achieving but overcrowded school in Nyandarua district, east of Nakuru. In 2023, enrollment topped 600 students, including 80 in ECD, mostly from single-parent or homeless backgrounds. Despite poor facilities—dilapidated classrooms, limited toilets, a basic kitchen, and just one water tank—the school ranked second in district KCPE scores. When ABW first visited, many classrooms needed repairs, and resources were stretched thin.
