KENYA: Got Osimbo Children’s Home

About the Home

Got Osimbo is a multi-unit children’s home project with a capacity to home 80 children that is being constructed in Saiya County, Kenya. The project is being constructed by Makina Community Development Project (MACODEP), a Nairobi community-based organization. MACODEP has operated a medical clinic and children’s home in Kibera, the largest slum in Nairobi, since 1997. In 2017, MACODEP acquired a parcel of land in Saiya County, the cultural homeland of many of the 35 children currently residing in the children’s home operated by MACODEP in Kibera. A productive water well has already been established and construction is now commencing on two 4-unit residences, along with associated infrastructure. Each residence will be home to 10 children of mixed age and gender, along with a full-time house mother with a philosophy of raising each child in as close to a family-like setting as possible. Construction is scheduled to be completed in September 2021. Future phases of the Got Osimbo project may include additional residences and possibly a school and community medical clinic.
