Remembering Larry Katchuik

Larry Katchuik was born on a farm near Assiniboia, Saskatchewan on March 8.1929  At around the age of 16 he ventured out on his own and started logging in Northern British Columbia. After that he became a heavy duty equipment operator for the Local 955 Operating Engineers. He continued to work for them while he began getting established in his own (one Man) excavating company. In 1972 Katchuik Excavating was born and our family moved to the small area known as Pritchard B.C. Chase BC. was the nearest little town with groceries, hardware, drugtore and of course schools! My Dad was an extremely hard worker and over the years contributed a lot to the community of Pritchard. He built numerous roads, dug many foundations for homes, put in sewer systems as well as many water lines and wells. He was a man of many talents even water witching when water seemed to be hard to find!He put the foundation in for the new Pritchard Hall as well as the FireHall. He built new ball diamonds for the kids and could often be found plowing driveways in the winter for those who could not afford ,or even hauling water when wells went dry during our 40degree summers. One of my fondest memories of my Dad as a kid was Dad filling up his biggest dump truck with water after he lined it with thick black plastic! It was the best swimming pool around that hot summer! My Dad was a quiet man with a big heart! Papa spent endless hours with his grandchildren. He took them for rides in the backhoe, excavator, cat and dump trucks! He would make a big pile of dirt or sand in the yard so the kids could all slide down, get dirty and be King Of The Castle! Every summer the grandkids would get to spent endless hours of adventures travelling in THE MAGIC BUS!! Papas motorhome lol  It has been 10 years since his passing but his memories and favourite sayings such as “HEY BOSS” “SQUIRT” and “UNBELIEVABLE” ARE STILL FRESH IN OUR MINDS 10 years later I am so happy to get this project of the ground! Thank You A Better World!

Larry Katchuik Passed Away in Kamloops, BC on June 24, 2012 He struggled for only 6 weeks with a cancerous brain tumour before being taken to the Lord. After 10 years his memories remain in our hearts!

Today he is survived by his son Rick and daughter Lenni. Also his 2 granddaughters Rilyn and Ashlan as well 5 grandsons Kelsey,Colton-james,Riley, Michael and Dawson.

Ten years ago these were my final words to my father before his burial. On May 23, 1967 I was born into this world as Daddy’s Little Girl! I was afraid of the dark so Dad always kept the hallway light on as it still is today!
I can remember being very young and running to my Dad saying “UPPY” “UPPY” DADDY” He would pick me up and Id cuddle into his shoulder and everything would be ok! Another memory was waking up with nightmares! I would cry out “DADDY” DADDY” In only a few minutes he would be by my bed holding a glass of water and giving me a hug to chase all the bad things away! As I got older you taught me patience, perseverance, and always have faith in others even when things didn’t seem to be going well! You gave me strength and believed in me when others didn’t!  Because of you Dad I made it through some bad times and have been able to hopefully do some good in this crazy world!

I WAS, I AM, AND ALWAYS WILL BE DADDY’S LITTLE GIRL
