About the Project: To address this growing problem, the school has planned an environmental protection project focused on preserving its land and facilities. The main goals of the project are:
• To control erosion on the school grounds.
• To protect school buildings and infrastructure.
• To restore and maintain green spaces.
• To improve the overall learning environment at UDS.
This will be done by creating paved paths to guide student movement and prevent damage to grass and soil

About the Site: Umutara Deaf School (UDS) is located in the Nyagatare District, Rwanda. The school has big problems with the environment, especially when it rains. Because the school is on a hill, rainwater flows quickly down and takes away the top layer of soil. This is called soil erosion. It makes the land weak and hard to grow grass or plants.
The school has tried many times to bring back soil to cover the ground, but the rain washes it away again. This problem keeps happening and costs a lot of money. Also, students walk everywhere around the school compound. This walking damages the grass and makes it dry and die. Without grass, the soil is open and easy for the rain to carry away. This makes the erosion worse and puts school buildings and land in danger.
