Sunday, March 20, 2016 – A widow cannot see any man for 4 months and 10 days after the husband’s death

A 24 hour trip to Lamu began this afternoon from Nairobi.  I have traded bumpy roads to  bumpy airplane and boat rides.

Prior to departure I arranged for some students ABW is sponsoring for University and High School to meet me for lunch at this small airport in Nairobi.

Rose, Eunice, Rachel, and Sarah.  They had their foundation at EAMO.

Arriving at this beautiful island I began visiting local families that are well known to ABW volunteers.

I visited a family whose husband  had drowned when the boat capsized.  I began talking to the children and was remembering his taking all of us on the boat.  I wanted to greet the mother.  The children said that in their Islamic traditional culture that the mother is not allowed to see any man for 4 months and 10 days except her brothers and sons.  She is also house bound for that time.  I had a good visit with the rest of the family.

A view from Kijani house.  The owners put me up in their home which is right on the beach.  The food here is amazing.

Right now it is 11 PM and it is 30C.

Tomorrow will be project visits.
