This morning I left Nairobi and made a road trip to Arusha, Tanzania. We are in the Arusha Hotel right in the heart of the city. The hotel is in a nice garden setting. The food and accommodation is great. This place is buzzing with tourists.
Ray Loxdale from Halifax arrived last night and is assisting A Better World assess a community development program that we plan to implement. Ray has traveled extensively and assisted ABW in many ways for over 15 years. This is our first visit to Tanzania and we have much to learn and a lot of distance to cover. We will also scope out opportunities for groups to come and assist.
We met up with Rama, our local project liaison. We debriefed with Rama on our plans, expectations and site visit details. Tomorrow (Wednesday) we will leave at 7:30 AM to the hospital and then on to Plaster House – a centre for physically disabled children. By 11 we plan to drive 5 hours to Leshoto and stay overnight. Then on Thursday morning we will drive 1.5 hours to the village that Rama has chosen for our community development program and will spend the day there.
I am looking forward to the possibilities in this new country for A Better World. We are thankful to Edmonton Philanthropist Cathy Roozen for her support and encouragement in making this visit possible.
